CW20 is not recommended for new integrations and is planned for deprecation on Injective.For new tokens, use TokenFactory. Where an ERC20 interface is needed, use the MultiVM Token Standard, which gives a token one balance shared across the native layer and the EVM. Existing CW20 assets continue to work and can be represented as bank denoms through the adapter.
CW20 is a Wasm token standard that resembles ERC20. Unlike bank denoms, CW20 balances and supply live in contract storage, so they are not visible to the exchange, auction or insurance modules without conversion, and querying supply requires a contract call. The CW20 Adapter converts a CW20 asset to a TokenFactory denom and back. See the formal CW20 specification for the standard itself.
